Facing the confusion - The 'culture' concept in health care



We face demographic changes today that require new competencies in health care and social service delivery.
My experience as an applied cultural & medical anthropologist has given me valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities for integrating cultural and linguistic competencies into systems and practices. Research tells us that ‘cultural competence’ is not well-understood by some practitioners.  This is partly due to confusion about the concept of culture and about the idea of cultural competence itself.  What do you think?
